Chapters

Youth for Innocence chapters empower students to collaborate with their peers on local wrongful conviction cases. Found on university and college campuses across the nation, chapters allow students to summarize and investigate wrongful conviction cases while engaging in community outreach and educational initiatives. This in-person work builds camaraderie among volunteers and create meaningful impact within local communities.

Requirements

5 volunteers

Each chapter must have at least five committed members, including a Chapter Leader.

20 hours/week

Collectively, the chapter must commit to a minimum of 20 hours of work per week on wrongful conviction cases.

Meeting Space

Chapters must secure an in-person meeting space to facilitate collaboration and teamwork.

Ready to Start?

Follow these steps to apply for your Youth for Innocence chapter:

  1. Download the Application Form

  2. Fill out the application form with details about your proposed chapter, including information about your team and your goals.

  3. Scan and email the completed form to canada@youthforinnocence.org.

Once your application has been reviewed and your team has met the requirements, you’ll be ready to make a difference. Chapters can also request funding for community projects and propose budgets to support local initiatives. We’re excited to help you create change in your community!

Feel free to schedule an office hours session with us to discuss the possibility of starting a chapter at your local institution. 

Email us at canada@youthforinnocence.org with three days/times that work for you and we will confirm.

DONATE

A donation will help us pay for the many expenses, both small and large, in the advocacy world, including:

  • Purchasing transcripts, appellate briefs, and other public documents from courts

  • Transporting/scanning case files (which can contain thousands of pages)

  • Stamps, envelopes, messaging platform fees, and other expenses that enable us to communicate with incarcerated communities

  • Fees for expert opinions, private investigators, legal motions, and other services in the pursuit of justice

With your help, we can continue to recruit more volunteers to work on more wrongful conviction cases with more efficient tools, helping more innocent individuals reclaim their freedom.
